On 18 November 1918, Independent Republic of Latvia was proclaimed in the Latvian National Theatre. Today 18 November is a public holiday with multiple events all day long thoughout the city.

In Riga, the celebration begins with a parade and laying of flowers at the Independence monument in the city center. This event is attendent by Latvian president and many officials. In the afternoon everyone can enjoy the National Armed Forces parade on 11th November Embankment right next to the Old Town. And the day is concluded by impressive fireworks over Daugava river to celebrate Latvian Independence Day.
