staro riga 2015

Next week we are greeting November – the darkest and most depressive month in the Baltic region. Latvia, as well as all the neighboring countries, will be getting very few day light which is a bit of a problem for all the citizens. Luckily, Riga authorities know exactly how to bring in some positive vibes and good mood! November is traditionally a month of the annual Staro Riga light festival.

For the past six years, the Latvian capital has been home to Staro Riga, a festival of lights akin to those held in European cities like Berlin, Ghent and Lyon. In 2014 festival coincided with the city’s reign as the European Capital of Culture and the event was really massive. Videos created by internationally-acclaimed artists danced across buildings while light installations were set up in the city parks and fountains, light installations flooded the city.

This year festival will be held on 18-21 November. We are expecting one hundred outdoor installations – building lights, multimedia projections in parks, on high-rise buildings and monuments. Staro Riga 2015 is a perfect reason to schedule a visit to Riga, enjoy it’s rich cultural heritage, exquisite cuisine and breathtaking light installations all around the city!
